Pangea3 Shed Light on Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) Ethics at PLI Seminar, New York
November 3, 2011
Pangea3 presented the final session of the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) two-day educational seminar and networking event, “Outsourcing 2011: Structuring, Negotiation and Governance” in New York.
At the session, Greg McPolin, Pangea3 Vice President and Managing Director, Global Litigation Solutions, explained in detail the complex ethical issues and legislative nuances involved with legal process outsourcing (LPO), and provided clear guidance for counsel seeking to establish and maintain effective LPO relationships.
Mr. McPolin’s presentation, “Ethical, Legislative and Practical Issues in Legal Process Outsourcing,” was held at the PLI New York Center, Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern and is now available on-demand.
“Attorneys can create significant value for their clients with the use of LPO, that’s no longer a secret,” says McPolin. “There are, however, some ethical and legal issues to consider. Understanding these issues, and addressing them upfront, is essential to the success of any LPO engagement.”
Key session topics included:
- Selecting and supervising an LPO provider
- Client disclosure and consent
- Avoiding conflicts of interest
- Confidentiality guidelines and policies
- Avoiding the unauthorized practice of law
- Appropriate billing for outsourced legal work
